Richard Thigpen, MD

Richard Thigpen, MDDr. Richard Thigpen graduated with his doctorate of medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. He received his bachelor of science in physics from Fisk University in Nashville.

His internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology were completed at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, where he was Chief Administrative Resident and received the 2013 Medical Student Teaching Award. Dr. Thigpen is the recipient of several awards, including the Helping Hand Award at the University of Michigan Medical School, Brother of the Year with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Chi Chapter), and the Beta Kappa Chi National Scientic Honor Society. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Thigpen met his wife in Knoxville while conducting undergraduate research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is excited about coming back to the place he and his family consider home, and he looks forward to enjoying many of his hobbies here, including bike riding, reading, and camping with his wife and three children.
